At the Prairie Rose Public Schools board meeting on Jan. 9, superintendent Reagan Weeks presented information on the drone program, which has been revamped.
Two programs are now being offered; one is a full semester class that will provide students enrolled with six Medicine Hat College credits. Students will be earning credits in robotics, flight as well as in using drones for ag applications. The drone program will be open to students from multiple schools across the division and will be available online so students at all PRPS high schools can access it.
Additionally, March 12-13 at Seven Persons Hall, PRPS has partnered with Cypress County to provide a two-day Ag Drone School. The course will cover the different uses for drones in agriculture and various sensors that are applicable for producers. On day two of the course, thermal and zoomable cameras for finding, monitoring or counting livestock will be covered, along with how spraying can be done using drones.
Weeks explained to the board that experts are coming from across the province who have extensive experience with drones and large drones as well as micro-drones will be brought by the course providers.
