An employee of an assisted-living facility in Medicine Hat has been charged with sexually assaulting residents, the Medicine Hat Police Service said Wednesday.

Police say they began an investigation in September after receiving two separate complaints from residents at Masterpiece Southland Meadows retirement facility.

The MHPS criminal investigations section stated in a release that two more complaints arose during the investigation, and now they have charged a former worker at the facility, 64-year-old Asim Omerovic.

He faces four counts of sexual assault and one count of being unlawfully in a dwelling unit.

His next scheduled court appearance is set for Jan. 10, 2024 in Medicine Hat Court of Justice.

Police state the investigation is ongoing and believe the potential exists for other complainants coming forward. Anyone with information is asked to call the service’s non-emergency line at 403-529-8481.
