Teddy Bear toss

The Medicine Hat Tigers sent teddy bears flying Saturday with Cayden Lindstrom’s 21st goal of the season. The 17-year-old NHL draft prospect scored 1:14 into the game to trigger the annual charitable tradition and scored again later in the game, a 6-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders. All stuffed animals or winter-gear donations thrown onto the ice will be split between the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, the Salvation Army, the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter and the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund. The Tigers will make those deliveries Wednesday.

The Tigers (17-8-2) have a home-and-home series this week with the Edmonton Oil Kings has Medicine Hat at home Friday and on the road Saturday.

Drought Management

The Alberta government is soliciting new study to model potential water supply shortage in 2024, the environment ministry announced late Friday.

Last week, Minister Rebecca Shulz told the News that she was preparing to convene talks with municipalities, irrigation districts and other major water users about coordinating action on water shortages.

The province is now issuing a request for proposals to conduct the modelling and seek out ways to maximize the province’s water supply.

City council agenda

Medicine Hat city council sits on Monday at city hall where they’ll hear a presentation on a regional working group aiming to reduce flood threat and build water storage infrastructure.

Council members will also be asked to approved changes to the Fair Entry cost subsidy program for lower income residents. A motion calling for the city to consider creating a disclosure policy for public sector salary disclosure.

Fatal accident near Coalhurst

A pedestrian was killed on Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 3 at about 5:30 a.m.

Coaldale RCMP say the accident happened between Range Road 224 and Township Road 92, west of Lethbridge. A 31-year-old woman from Standoff, Alta. was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police say that in the early stages of the investigation, impairment does not appear to be a factor.

Despite warm weather this week — including an expected high of 15C on Tuesday — a few events should get Hatters into the Christmas spirit.

Olde Tyme Christmas Fair takes place on the Stampede ground’s Heritage Village on Dec. 7, 5-8 p.m.

The Santa Claus Parade, put on by the MH News Santa Claus Fund and IG Wealth, is set for  Monday, Dec. 11, and the Santa Claus Fund Charity Auction is set for Dec. 14 at Dayz-Off Pub.

The CPKC Holiday Train, is due in town on Dec. 19, 3 p.m., N. Railway Street for concert and food bank fundraiser.
