The Town of Leader will receive $1.4 million in federal and provincial funding to upgrade water treatment in the centre, located 120 kilometres northeast of Medicine Hat.

Shaunavon is also awarded about $884,000 to upgrade wells and add ultraviolet disinfection equipment, Ottawa and the province of Saskatchewan announced Oct. 24.

Nine projects in Saskatchewan were detailed in a release about the winners of funds from the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

At Leader, funds will go toward building a new above-ground potable water storage tank, and connect it to the existing drinking and associated works.

Ottawa’s share of $766,000 is matched by $639,000 from the province while the town’s contribution to the budget is $511,000. In Shaunavon, federal funds total $459,000 to match a provincial share of $382,000 and local funding of $306,000.
