Premier in town today for economic announcement, town hall at library

Premier Danielle Smith is scheduled to be in Medicine Hat today to take part in an MLA town hall tonight after an economic announcement this afternoon.

Smith, also the MLA for Brooks-Medicine Hat, will join Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Justin Wright at the Medicine Hat Public Library for an evening discussion with local chief librarian Ken Feser moderating and asking submitted questions.

In the afternoon Smith is expected to appear with Jobs Minister Matt Jones at the site of the new S3 Group facility.

The News reported this summer that the Swift Current-based farm implement manufacturer had selected Medicine Hat as an expansion site. Company officials said they planned to hire as many as 30 full-time metal workers and engineers this fall and up to 100 eventually as it expanded its metallurgy works.

Airport drill

Emergency management staff at the city plan to stage a mock disaster scenario at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Medicine Hat police and firefighters are expected to take part along with airport staff, though now disruption of service or the public is expected.
