At the first public meeting of the new school year for the Medicine Hat Public School Division one of the trustees was congratulated on recently receiving an award. Trustee and vice-chair Pat Grisonich received the Advancing Association Business and Initiatives Award at the June meeting of the Public-School Board Association of Alberta.

Grisonich is in his third year as a trustee and represents MHPSD at the PSBAA meetings, which occur six times each year. He was nominated for the award by Brian Callaghan from Canadian Rockies Public Schools.

“It was important that I let them know this award represents my whole district, all the trustees, because I’m fortunate enough to be the one that was selected (to attend PSBAA meetings) and it was about being involved and promoting education,” stated Grisonich. “I’ve been quite involved in the PSBAA side and I’m a real believer that trustees are important and that school districts are important.”

The PSBAA advocates for public school education and is dedicated to the success of children across Alberta. Grisonich embodies the value system of the PSBAA and believes the best part of being a trustee is “advocating for the students, 100 per cent. I think we have an incredible district and amazing teachers and staff, but most importantly we have outstanding students and that’s what it’s all about.”

Receiving the award was unexpected for Grisonich.

“I was really quite shocked I got the award, that I was even nominated, because it was only my second year. He (Callaghan) just said, but you are always involved. That’s because of these guys,” Grisonich stated as he waved his arm toward the table where the board of trustees and leadership team sit during MHPSD board meetings.
