Police have charged a Medicine Hat man with arson after a fire caused $150,000 in damage to a travel travel and garage in the city’s north end on Sept. 22.
Medicine Hat fire crews and police responded to the blaze at about 5 a.m. on the Friday morning to find flames engulfing both the camper and a nearby detached garage in an alley near the 1300 Block of Seventh Avenue, N.W.
In a release on Monday, police stated that it is believed the fire was deliberately set and they arrested Joseph Haynes, 51, of Medicine Hat, with one count of arson and one count of breaching a court order.
He was released on bail with orders to appear on Oct. 17 at the Medicine Hat Alberta Court of Justice.
Police say the investigation is continuing and are seeking witnesses or anyone else with relevant information to contact investigators.
