Craft circles are taking place twice a month at Medicine Hat College in Ómahksípiitaa (Big Eagle).

There will be two craft circles per month, explained Nicki Eastly, Indigenous student specialist at MHC. The Indigenous Engagement & Student Supports Office is bringing in knowledge keepers from a woman’s society who have been teaching crafts. This month those attending can make heart-shaped earrings, a pin or a T-shirt.

“We are hoping this year to be able to connect our students with the art community,” stated Eastly. “To give them a sense of community, especially if they aren’t from here so they can connect with other students, staff and community members and the knowledge keepers we are bringing in. All our events are open to everyone.”

The last craft circle that was held had 19 participants and they are hoping for more at the next one, which goes Sept. 26 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The next craft circles will be Oct. 10 and Oct. 24.
