The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education had its first meeting of the current school year on Tuesday, with superintendent Dwayne Zarichny asking for housekeeping approval to move two modulars from St. Michael’s School to Ecole St. John Paul II School.

The modulars have already been moved and are in place at the cost of $474,000, which MHCBE received funding for from Alberta Education.

Wahl Construction Ltd. moved and installed the modulars, which are now operational for the new school year. A washroom modular has also been approved for JPII. Construction on this one should be finished in November but won’t be installed until March 2024.

Trustee David Leahy asked why it would take until March for the washroom modular to be installed and operational. Zarichny replied that it hasn’t been built yet, construction happens off site and then it will take time to get it installed.

Trustee Bernie Kinch asked about the cost and if it was dollar for dollar money in and money out. Secretary treasurer Greg MacPherson confirmed it was and that MHCBE is the builder, so the money comes through the division before being sent out to the contractor.
