Own Cancer golf event raises $52K for centre in Calgary

The locally organized “Own Cancer” event at Desert Blume Golf Club on Aug. 10 raised $52,000, offering 48 golfers two meals and a round of golf before a live auction in the evening. Proceeds support the provincewide campaign to raise $250 million in support of the Calgary Cancer Centre. That facility is set to open next year accepting patients from across Alberta and sharing research with cancer clinics in other centres. Hatters Jeff Weder, Randy Stober, Harold Exner and Trevor Ellerman organized the shotgun start event, which had a $500 entry fee. Rick Porter conducted the auction. 6-5
