Public consultations launch for solar farm on Black and White Trail

Public consultations on the Peace Butte Solar project have been launched by Alberta Utilities Commission.

Last month, Aura Power formally applied to build the 230-megawatt solar array, coupled with a 100-megawatt battery storage system on six privately-owned quarter-sections of land south of Medicine Hat.

The facility would be built west of the intersection of the Black and White Trail and Township Road 100, about 16 kilometres southeast of Seven Persons, and include an underground collector system and new substation.

While similarly named, the project is not connected to the Peace Butte Wind Farm proposal in the general vicinity.

Written submissions to the AUC by those directly affected by the proposal (also known proposal No. 28259) are due by August 2.
