Hat woman gets 60-day jail sentence for spitting in cab driver’s face

https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews A local woman has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for spitting in the face of a cab driver last autumn as well as failing to attend court last month. Bambi Rose Dressel, who has been in custody since May, will spend another 16 days in custody as result of a plea deal approved Thursday morning at Medicine Hat Court of Justice. A statement of facts read into record described an argument between Dressel and the female taxi driver following a ride that escalated to the point where Dressel spit in the other women’s face. “It’s disgusting and many people would prefer a punch in the face,” said Crown prosecutor Conor Doyle while describing the event that led to the assault charge being laid. “It is assault and very serious … with health concerns.” Justice Fredrick Brooks approved the sentence – 60-days and a $100 victim surcharge – which covers two separate charges. Considering time served is credited at 1.5 times, the sentence will conclude in 16 days, but Dressel will remain in custody until other matters are dealt with. Dressel and defence attorney Greg White did not add any commentary to the sentencing, though White indicated he will seek a trial date for a separate set of charges relating to housebreaking to commit assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. 9-8
