City accepting nominations for various civic awards

The City of Medicine Hat is looking to recognize Hatters who have made remarkable contributions to the community or, through their achievements, have generated interest in it, through a variety of civic awards.

The city is calling for nominations for its 2023 Community Spirit Awards, Awards of Excellence and Awards of Achievement between now and 4:30 p.m. on June 2.

Community Spirit Awards celebrates Hatters who have helped improve community members’ quality of life in regards to seven distinct categories; Arts/Culture, Sports/Recreation, Compassion, Environment, Community Inclusion, Volunteerism and Civic Pride.

Awards of Excellence recognize Hatters who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to enhancing quality of life within the community, with the Heart of Medicine Hat Award offered to those who have contributed for a minimum of 15 years, and the Change Maker Award offered to those contributing for a minimum of five years.

Awards of Achievement acknowledge Hatters who are amateurs or professionals in the categories of either Arts/Culture or Sports/Recreation who have represented Medicine Hat through their achievements. Award recipients must have placed first in a provincial championship or placed first, second or third in a national or international championship.

Award winners will be announced Oct. 18 at the Esplanade.
