AHS launches brand new Pediatric Rehabilitation Line

By Medicine Hat News on April 12, 2023.

Alberta Health Services is expanding support options for parents, guardians and caregivers with concerns regarding their child’s development.

Through AHS’s newly launched Pediatric Rehabilitation Line, Albertans who have concerns about child and youth development are able to access free support, advice and referrals over the phone.

An offshoot of AHS’s existing Rehabilitation Advice Line, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Line is staffed by occupational therapists and other allied health professionals, who can assist with a range of development-related concerns including movement and co-ordination, speech, listening comprehension, hearing, managing emotions, eating difficulties and daily functions like sleeping and toileting.

The Pediatric Rehabilitation Line is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and can be accessed by first calling HealthLink at 811.

Individuals with concerns may also access free live and pre-recorded webinars focusing on a range of developmental topics.

Webinars are hosted on Zoom and require advance registration. To register visit myhealth.alberta.ca/pediatric-rehabilitation/webinars.

Health Minister Jason Copping said the expansion is part of the province’s strategy to improve patient flow and increase care options.
