Downtown YMCA now offering 24-hour gym access

By Medicine Hat News on April 4, 2023.

Medicine Hat YMCA announced Monday it is now offering 24-hour access to its downtown gym.

Members aged 18-plus may access the gym’s cardio and weight floors any time day or night through an additional membership payment of $2.50 bi-weekly and a one-time $10 key fob activation fee.

Local YMCA CEO Sharon Hayward says introducing 24/7 gym access has been a long-term goal of the organization, and she and her staff are proud to finally see it launch.

“We often hear that people would like the Y to be open later, especially on weekends,” said Hayward. “(So) in response to that, we’ve spent the last year preparing the facility to ensure it can operate safely during overnight hours.

“This has included securing for the part of the facility that has access to the pool and lobby area, installing security cameras and panic buttons, installing netting on our second-floor balcony, etc.

“With those changes complete, we are pleased to offer extended hours to the community.”

As of now, Hayward says there are no plans to expand 24/7 access to other areas of the facility or other locations.

While the downtown location’s gym will be accessible 24/7, general and health plus change rooms, pool, basement weight area, classrooms and lobby will remain accessible during regular business hours only.
