A school in southwest Saskatchewan that was destroyed by fire after a lightning strike last summer may be rebuilt, the Chinook School Board has announced.

Stewart Valley School burned down in late August and 41 students were transferred to attend classes this year in Success, Sask., about 30 minutes away.

This week the board announced that the Ministry of Education had given approval to rebuild the facility using insurance proceeds, but the province will not provide additional capital for the project.

The board will begin the process of seeking out an architect and will discuss operational plans for Stewart Valley pupils for the 2023-24 school year in the next few weeks.
