The Flying Legends of Victory Tour will once again land in Medicine Hat this summer, thus providing Hatters a unique opportunity to learn about aviation and history, say organizers.

Operated by the Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum and hosted by the Medicine Hat Family, Fun and Flight committee, the tour showcases two planes that flew in the Second World War: a B-25 and B-17.

“Those two airplanes were pretty important pieces of equipment back in the World War Two days,” MHFFF committee president, Rob Watson said. “So the Commemorative Air Force is trying to educate and inspire and bring these historic pieces around for people to see.”

The tour is scheduled to arrive in Medicine Hat on June 26, but will likely not open to the public until June 27 through to July 2.

Once open however, Hatters will be invited to the airport to see the planes up close and learn more about them, as well as learn about aviation combat history in general.

Attendees also have the opportunity to purchase a ride in the plane of their choosing.

Watson and fellow committee members plan to have several other activities set up at the airport during the tour, the details of which will be announced at a later date.

At the moment, Watson is seeking volunteers and sponsors to assist with the tour. Those interested are asked to email medicinehatfff@gmail.com.

“It’ll be here on the Canada Day long weekend,” said Watson. “So, hopefully it’s something that people will stop and check out.”
