Hatters are invited to a celebration of film and animation with the Eclipse Film Festival, being held Saturday at 7 p.m. in Medicine Hat Public Library’s theatre.

The event, which will feature a variety of shorts films and animations from around the world, is part of an ongoing film festival series put on by Club 404, a Medicine Hat College student-led film production club.

The event will open with submissions from filmmakers based locally or in surrounding regions. Then, following a brief intermission, international submissions will be shown. All submitted films are less than eight minutes in length.

A screening of the 30-minute film Charsi, produced by Calgary-based film production company Daydreamer Films Inc., will conclude the evening.

Event organizers hope audiences enjoy the showcase, and say they would love for the experience to fuel or ignite passion for film and animation within those present.

“Film is a unique medium that encompasses so many art forms,” Club 404 president Jessikah Babe told the News. “It’s great coming together as a community to create a film and even better coming together as a community to watch it and celebrate it.

“Our audience is normally quite lively and welcoming, beginners and experienced filmmakers are equally celebrated. There’s a lot of fun and a lot of laughs to be had … Club 404 is so fortunate to have the community’s support in our endeavours, and we look forward to growing our reach with each year.”

Admission to the festival is $5 per person and can be paid at the door.
