A three-week murder trial has been scheduled to hear the case of a Suffield woman accused in the death of her husband two years ago.

Deborah Murrill Belyea, 70, will face a judge and jury trial set for Jan. 8 to 26, 2024, Court of King’s Bench in Medicine Hat heard on Friday.

Defence attorney Katherine Beyak said pre-trial conference dates and other scheduling were still to be determined.

Belyea was charged in October 2021, shortly after the RCMP announced they were searching for her husband, Alfred Belyea, a Cypress County councillor.

She faces charges of second-degree murder and performing an indignity to human remains after RCMP say they found his body at a rural property near Piapot, Sask.

She was ordered to stand trail following a preliminary inquiry in January.
