Deborah Murrill Belyea, 70, will face a judge and jury trial set for Jan. 8 to 26, 2024, Court of King’s Bench in Medicine Hat heard on Friday. Defence attorney Katherine Beyak said pre-trial conference dates and other scheduling were still to be determined. Belyea was charged in October 2021, shortly after the RCMP announced they were searching for her husband, Alfred Belyea, a Cypress County councillor. She faces charges of second-degree murder and performing an indignity to human remains after RCMP say they found his body at a rural property near Piapot, Sask. She was ordered to stand trail following a preliminary inquiry in January. 9
