Mounties in Brooks are searching for an older BMW after its occupants were reportedly attempting to steal another vehicles’ catalytic converter Wednesday night.

The Brooks RCMP detachment reports that two witnesses say they got into a confrontation with the car’s driver and passenger before it sped away with a smashed driver’s window from 270 Aquaduct Dr. at about 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The vehicle is described as a silver 2002 BMW 351xi with sunroof, tinted tail lights and was seen bearing two different Alberta licence plates, ZHB-846 and CND-8497.

Witnesses say the car pulled up alongside a parked vehicle before a male passenger exited and slid beneath a parked car. Catalytic converters are part of the exhaust system and contain precious metals.

Anyone with information should contact the Brooks detachment at 403-632-5535.
