Correction: Prairie Rose EAs not unionized

Incorrect information was included in the Feb. 9 edition of the News.

An article, titled “Local educators among several unions to sign new employment contracts,” wrongly stated that the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 829 had settled a new contract for educational assistants employed with the Prairie Rose School Division.

That union, in fact, represents custodial staff in the Redcliff-area schools of Prairie Rose School Division. Those seven workers have a new contract, not the educational assistants, who are not unionized.

The confusion results from the fact CUPE No. 829 represents educational assistants in the Medicine Hat Public School system as well as clerical and custodial staff, and custodians with the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education.
