Missing local woman’s body found on Sunday

A Medicine Hat woman who was the subject of a three-week search has been found dead.

Local police reported Sunday they had discovered a body after cruisers and officers were seen in an open area near Parkview Drive in northeast Crescent Heights. The investigation continued Monday, but police say foul play is not suspected.

The Medicine Hat Police Service had recently asked residents of the north-end community to check their properties, sheds and any outdoor security camera footage for signs of the woman.

Jennifer Chemelli-Magnus, 53, was last seen on foot near 20th Street NE and Eighth Avenue in the area Dec. 30.

Police thanked members of the public and organizations that joined in the search. They stated no further release of information would be made.
