Medicine Hat Public Library is hosting its next Pecha Kucha Night on Friday at the Esplanade, doors open 7:30 p.m.
A Japanese word roughly translated to mean ‘chit-chat,’ Pecha Kucha is a public speaking event at which a handful of Medicine Hat and area community members deliver short presentations on a variety of topics.
Each presentation consists of a 20-slide slideshow, and presenters are given 20 seconds to speak per slide; meaning each presentation lasts six minutes and 40 seconds.
The upcoming Pecha Kucha Night will include presentations by; Willy Taillon, speaking on his love of hot air ballooning and how he came to establish his business Coulee Balloon; Jamie Nelson, discussing the power of giving and philanthropy; Jennifer Utrera Barrientos, retelling of her search for information about a man pictured in an Esplanade Archive photo; Ryan Oscar, discussing his journey from addiction to recovery; George Duffy, speaking on the post-pandemic travel industry; Jennifer Mah and Liudmyla Mokra, discussing the ways in which Hatters and Ukrainian refugees have come together in the months following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; Rondi Neuven, sharing her journey to weight loss and a healthier lifestyle; John Widden, speaking on the intricacies of musical theatre; and Vanessa Braun, exploring the ways in which parenting is linked to childhood.
Admission is pay-what-you-will, with a suggested donation of $5. All proceeds raised from admission donations will be used to fund future Pecha Kucha Nights.
