Correction to Saturday’s jobless rate story

A Saturday report on the unemployment rate in Alberta included an error that confused comparisons of job growth between monthly and yearly differences.

The report stated Alberta’s jobless rate fell to 5.2 per cent in October and cited Jobs Minister Brian Jean’s statement that 14,000 more Alberta had full-time jobs compared to September 2021.

In fact, Jean’s statement regarded the difference between October and the previous month, rather than one year earlier.

The year-over-year difference for October was 103,000 more jobs.
