Hatters are invited to pay their respects this Remembrance Day during the Robertson Memorial Branch No. 17 of the Royal Canadian Legion’s annual memorial service and Remembrance Day parade.

The public memorial service is scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Esplanade’s main theatre. Following the ceremony, attendees will be invited to join the Remembrance Day parade as it moves towards Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park for the 11 a.m. moment of silence, cenotaph service and placing of wreaths.

The parade will then continue to Robertson Memorial Branch No. 17, located at 702 Second Street SE.

Transportation is available to veterans with mobility issues, with pickup scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at Legion No. 17.

Whether able to attend Remembrance Day events or not, the public is encouraged to show their support by donning a poppy pin, which can be obtained through a donation to the Legion’s poppy campaign.

“That little poppy unites us all in support of the veterans who have sacrificed, and continue to sacrifice, for our country,” branch president Sheila Donner told the News. “And I encourage people to wear them as a symbol of remembrance of those sacrifices that have been made so we can live in peace and freedom.”

Donner is grateful to the community for its continued support of the poppy campaign, which runs from now until Nov. 10.

Poppies can be obtained from various locations throughout the city, including Walmart, Medicine Hat Mall, Canadian Tire and Co-op on 13th Avenue SE.
