After a long life, Medicine Hat’s Roy Gale, a veteran of WWII, passed away at the age of 102 on Sept. 16.
Gale was a community-minded individual who remained active with the Lion’s Club and Royal Canadian Legion.
Following a private internment at Hillside Cemetery Saturday morning, there will be a celebration of life to which all are invited. The celebration will start at 11 a.m. and be held in the Ortona Room at the Royal Canadian Legion, Robertson Memorial Branch No. 17 at 702 Second Street SE.
The celebration will begin with a poppy service, where family members will be piped into the Legion by bagpipers. A recognition service from the Lion’s Club will follow. Before lunch is served, family and friends will deliver eulogies lasting a few minutes each, along with a favourite moment. A table of remembrance is being constructed today at the Legion with memories from Gale’s life.
Thirty-one family members from across Canada and around the world are expected to be present. The family is hoping for a good turnout with 150 chairs being set up. Anyone who knew Gale is encouraged to come out and take part in the celebration.
Serving the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, Crematorium and Reception Facility, and condolences can be expressed by visiting their website at http://www.cooksouthland.com.
