Former Hat businessman going to trial on fraud charges

Allegations of fraud against a former Medicine Hat businessman will go to trial, court heard Thursday.

Chad Dale Fontaine faces a total of five charges of fraud over $5,000 in three sets of charges filed by prosecutors since 2019.

In July, the man changed his attorney, and this week, new defence counsel Greg White entered not guilty pleas on Fontaine’s account and elected for trials to proceed by judge alone in Court of King’s Bench.

Included in the matters are single counts of fraud under $5,000 and trafficking in property or the proceeds of crime valued at less than $5,000.

Dates for the trial and preliminary inquiry dates are expected to be fixed next week by the court management office.
