Little Britches returns to Dunmore Equestrian Centre

By SAMANTHA JOHNSON, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on August 26, 2022.

Back for it’s fifth year, the Dunmore Equestrian Little Britches Rodeo Sweetheart Competition will run on the evening of Sept. 2 and the morning of Sept. 3. If you want to apply to enter the competition, today is the last day to enter.

Organizer Haley Schlenker said, “we do have some (4) girls entered. Applications are open until this Friday.”

The competition gives the entrants an opportunity to represent the Dunmore Equestrian Centre, the sport of rodeo and the Western way of life.

There are four categories in the competition: horsemanship, public speaking, modelling and personality. The fashion show and modelling will be held on the evening of Sept. 2 at Safety Buzz in Dunmore.

The evening starts with public speaking at 5 p.m. and each contestant can speak on any topic they like. Judges have been lined up for the competition and everything is ready to go.

Bright and early on Saturday morning, the horsemanship kicks off at 8 a.m. with the crowing of the 2023 Sweetheart to follow. Reigning Sweetheart, Emma Baedke, will be there to hand over the crown.

Schlenker, who has been organizing the competition since 2019, stated, “We are really looking forward to having the competition and we would like to invite everyone to come out and watch.”
