Larger crowds expected for this year’s Gospel Jamboree

The Business Men’s Fellowship Gospel Jamboree is returning to Kin Coulee Park on Sunday August 28. Things kick off with a free breakfast and coffee at 9 a.m. followed by church music and a service by the Salvation Army from 10-11 a.m.

Russel Scherer, organizer of the jamboree, said they’ve been doing it for about 15 years.

“Lately with COVID, there haven’t been too many people but some who hear about it came out.”

Scherer said they are hoping for a larger crowd this year and praying for the weather to be similar to last year’s jamboree, which was a balmy 25 Celsius all day.

The jamboree will take place in the grandstand area. The music starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 8 p.m., with short breaks for changeovers. There will be a lunch break at 1 p.m., with beverages and food available. Last year, food trucks showed up, but the organizers can’t say it will be a guarantee for this year’s event.

Russ Laurie and Levina Tom take the stage at 11:10 a.m., after the church service, and will be followed by Jodi Faith. Eileen Wotschell, Robbie Shields and Darlene Peters, Crystal and Herb Taylor, Harry and Gladys Rusk, and the Refuge Ranch Band, who all play in the afternoon and into the evening. The final act will be Murray Jaster and Risen from the Ashes.

“I will suggest everyone brings an umbrella just to be safe, sunshine or rain it’s good to have. Bring a lawn chair, we do have chairs but maybe not enough. It’s a good idea to bring water as well,” commented Scherer.
