Taking to the North Stage by Higdon Hall each day of the Stampede at 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. is the husband-and-wife duo Two of a Kind. The duo have been playing together for about 10 years and have a steady following in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. This is their first time playing the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede.

Michelle Reid, one half of the duo, said “it is a family-friendly show, I think we give out a feel-good vibe.

“We are referred to as danceable. What sets us apart is we try to be charismatic and entertaining. We don’t get up there and only sing, there is banter back and forth, and we bring entertainment value to our shows.”

Earlier this year, Two of a Kind rolled out a Shania Twain tribute and, at the moment, are more into modern country with some of the older stuff thrown in. Prior to the pandemic, they took a show across Canada called Legendary Duos.

Husband Wally Kozakow was in a hard rock band called Pretty Boy Floyd in his late teens and early 20s and has been playing bass since he was very young. He started playing acoustic guitar and developed more vocally after the duo formed.

Reid, originally from the U.K., moved to Vancouver at nine years old and comes from a long line of musicians.

“I mostly did musical theatre in my younger years and sang in different competitive choirs in my teens. I went from there to getting a couple of Factor Grants from Music Canada and going to Ontario and doing a few albums with my brothers, who are both musicians.”

Reid and Kozakow met on the casino circuit about 12 years ago before getting together as a couple and starting the duo.

“It took off very quickly in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. It seems to intrigue people that we are musically connected and a couple.”

Two of a Kind play each day of the Stampede on the North Stage by Higdon Hall. Their first performance will be on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
