Bike Week got off to a rainy start Monday, resulting in the Great Big Pedal being postponed; but Hatters still have ample opportunity to celebrate cycling by taking part in Bike Medicine Hat’s virtual bicycle scavenger hunt.
Running now until Aug. 1, the scavenger hunt challenges Hatters to complete a variety of bike-related activities, such as biking at sunset, using a bell or taking a selfie while wearing a Bike Medicine Hat t-shirt.
“We want to encourage people to go out and explore the city, check out some different areas in the community, and choose cycling for pleasure or for transportation,” Bike Medicine Hat chair, Carter Gramlich, told the News.
Participants have 20 different activities to choose from, all of which are listed on Bike Medicine Hat’s Facebook page. Gramlich encourages participants to keep track of which activities they complete and share their final results with Bike Medicine Hat for a chance to win gift card and merchandise prizes.
“You don’t have to achieve everything on the list,” said Gramlich. “If somebody submits their sheet, regardless of how many items they get checked off, they’ll still get entered into the draw.”
Each submission will earn one entry into the draw, however participants may earn additional entries by posting photos of themselves completing the activities online and tagging Bike Medicine Hat or using the hashtag #BYXH. One additional entry per post.
“We hope everybody takes an opportunity over the two-week period to try and get out and explore a little bit,” said Gramlich. “And, of course, we hope everybody rides safe. We always recommend people wear a helmet as well.”
Anyone hoping to enter must submit their completed activities list to bikemedicinehat@gmail.com and post all photos on or before Aug. 2.
