https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Saskatchewan set a new record for electricity consumption in summer on July 15, Crown utility provider SaskPower has reported. Demand in the province reached 3,551 megawatts at 5 p.m. that day as most of the southern portion of Saskatchewan was under a heat warning and temperatures were above 30C. That is up four megawatts, the equivalent needed to supply about 4,000 homes, from the previous summer record set in June 2021. SaskPower stated that at peak on July 15 it used 260-megawatts of wind power and eight megawatts of solar power. The all-time high demand for power use in the province is 3,910 megawatts, set on Dec. 30, 2021. The most recent report from the Alberta Electrical System Operator states that between June 16-22, power demand in Alberta peaked at 10,294 megawatts. The all-time record demand was set in January 2022 at 11,939 megawatts. 7
