jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb The sound of motorcycles will roar through Medicine Hat this weekend. The Western Region H.O.G riding is hosting the 15th Prairie Regional H.O.G. Rally this weekend with roughly 180 riders arriving to the Hat today. The group has two guided rides, Friday and Saturday, with one running longer at 500 km and also a shorter ride. Friday’s long ride will take them through Writing on Stone Provincial Park with the shorter ride travelling to Theresa Lake and back through Elkwater. Saturday’s ride will be to Dinosaur Provincial Park with a roundabout way to return to the city that will total 300-350 km. The shorter ride will take riders to Etzikom and the windmill museum and if time is available, they’ll run into Red Rock Cooley. Rally director Rick Look said he is excited for the weekend and welcomes anyone who has a bike to register for the group and the rally and enjoy the fellowship it offers. “It all comes down to fellowship and we’re a tight knit bunch,” Look said “We love to ride and we just kind of open arms to everybody that wants to ride.” Look has been the director of the Medicine Hat chapter for the last four years and been a part of the group since 2013. The retired firefighter had a simple reason to join the chapter. “I’ve ridden motorcycles all my life and when I retired from the fire department in 2013, I bought myself a retirement present, which was a Harley motorcycle.” Alongside the guided tours, the rally also offers self-guided tours for anyone interested in leading themselves through the area before returning to Medicine Hat and the host, Whiskey Creek Pub. They will also have a brewery tour available Friday and Saturday and a city tour for the riders from across the province to see Medicine Hat. It will be the first rally held in Medicine Hat since 2019. 13
