During a traffic stop last week, Mounties in Maple Creek seized nearly one kilogram of methamphetamine that was bound for Regina.

Officers with the service’s roving traffic unit say they pulled over an eastbound pickup on July 6 for having an obstructed licence plate when they made the discovery. Authorities say 337 grams of cocaine and an undisclosed sum of cash was also seized.

Vasco Kalala, 33, and Emmany Kayembe, 25, both of Calgary, are charged with two counts each of possessing a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking, along with one count of possessing stole property valued at less than $5,000.

They are to appear in Maple Creek Provincial Court on Aug. 11.

Camera gear grabbed

RCMP in Pontiex say they are still searching for suspects after $40,000 in photographic equipment was taken from a car near the Frenchman Valley campground on June 18. Taken were cameras, lenses and a tripod. Anyone with information should call the Pontiex detachment at 306-625-6400.
