Medicine Hat police are reminding the public to verify information posted online prior to sharing, following review of a social media post containing falsified information. Police say, throughout the past week, several citizens have inquired about a social media post which claimed two men attacked and stabbed a 33-year-old Medicine Hat mother after asking her for help. As police received no reports matching the details of the post, an investigation was launched, through which it was determined the information was false. Police say similar posts have recently been circulating online in various North American communities. “If people are ever concerned about a specific event, they can always call and inquire – like that someone did in this case – bring it to our attention, and we can see if there’s any validity to it,” Darcy Brandt, MHPS Inspector of Operations, said. Anyone with a general inquiry for police can call 403-529-8400. 6
