The largest municipal workers union in Medicine Hat is attempting to certify workers at the Redcliff Library.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local No. 46, made application to become the bargaining agent for seven workers of the Redcliff Library Board.

That was filed with on June 24 by the Alberta Labour Relations Board, which has scheduled an administrative hearing on the matter for July 13.

CUPE, No. 46, represents more than 700 inside, outside and transit workers at the City of Medicine Hat, along with workers at the Cypress View Foundation, Medicine Hat Community Housing Society and the Medicine Hat Public Library, which are legally distinct employers from the city. The union also represents about 50 employees with the Town of Redcliff.
