City property taxes due today

Today is the last day to pay 2022 property tax without penalty or to sign up for tax instalment payment plan.

Amounts unpaid as of the end of business on June 30 will be charged an immediate 7 per cent penalty, then 1 per cent monthly..

Mill rates approved in April will see the average single-family homeowner pay, assessed at $289,000, about $107 more this year compared to last year, concluding a three-year rate freeze.

The 2020 tax rates included a rebate line from $4 million in city reserve cash as part of a “COVID-relief” support package.

That keep tax bills generally at 2019 levels, while in 2021 budget cuts made that reduction permanent.

Total municipal tax revenue is budgeted to bring in $80.8 million this year to fund city operations.

The education portion of property tax revenue, requested by and forwarded too the province, will rise 7.6 per cent compared to 2021, accounting to a shortfall in 2021 and scheduled increase in 2022.
