Locals show strong at Provincial Music Festival

Local performing artists continue to shine as they celebrate their successes at the 2022 Alberta Provincial Music Festival and prepare to represent Alberta at the upcoming Canada West Performing Arts Festival.

Following performances at the Medicine Hat Rotary Music Festival earlier this year, 27 local youth performing artists were nominated to compete in the provincial music festival, held virtually. Of the 27 performers, 11 were named finalists, placing first, second or third in their respective disciplines.

Finalists include; Anders Currah who placed third in Music Composition (16 and under); Hana Fenwick, third in Classical Vocalist (14 and under); Avani Gaekwad, first in Speech Solo (12 and under) and Musical Theatre (Ages 6 to 9); Ayla Johnson, third in Contemporary Vocals (12 and under); Avery Lavigne, third in Musical Theatre Uptempo (12 and under); Emma Lavigne, first in Classical Vocals (16 and under) and third in Musical Theatre Uptempo (16 and under); Laec Lorentzen, first in Cello/Double Bass Solo (16 and under) and third in String and Keyboard Sonata; Muse Munson, third in Woodwind Solo (16 and under); Andrew Peter, third in Classical Guitar (12 and under); Dominik Pilgrim, second in Contemporary Vocals (16 and under); Lucas Semrau, first in Musical Theatre Uptempo (Senior) and second in Musical Theatre Ballad (Senior).

Recognition to provincial performers; Tanya Achyra, Abby Bacon, Stirling Clark, Madeleine Heese, Ella Hoffarth, Oliver Hopkins, Debasri Jena, Denis Kim, Callie Martens, Kunaal Pareek, Angelina Poddar, Krysa Schlenker, Nya Sissons, Esther Snider, Riley Streifel and Anna Thomas.

First place finalists will move on to represent Alberta in the Canada West Performing Arts Festival, taking place July 21-23 in Saskatoon.

Rotary Music Festival organizers give congratulations to all performing artists.
