A woman has been arrested and charged with assault and firearms offences following a serious incident in the Flats on Thursday evening.

Members of the Medicine Hat Police Service were called to the 1200 block of Ross Street at about 5:30 p.m., and when they arrived on scene they were informed of a male who required immediate medical assistance inside the home. Police entered the residence to find a 41-year-old man with serious injuries. Paramedics were escorted in to take the man to hospital for treatment, and later flown to Calgary where he remains in stable condition.

Police investigation suggests the incident was isolated and the persons involved knew each other. A 41-year-old woman is in custody charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and numerous firearms offences. She awaits a bail hearing.

MHPS Major Crimes continues to investigate, and no further information will be available until its conclusion.
