Adaptive golf and cycling available in June

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on May 26, 2022.

Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation is dusting off the clubs and breaking out the bikes this June.

The MHASR is offering adaptive golf and cycling programs and groups as the summer weather comes in full effect.

On June 7 the MHASR adaptive goal program will be held at the Cottonwood Coulee Golf Course. The first 40 minutes of the lesson will be spent on the driving range and the last 20 minutes will be on the chipping and putting green. Volunteers Derek Whitson and Matt Taylor will be leading the session.

In addition to golf lessons, the $80 fee to register will also pay for a driving range pass for the months of June and July, so participants can also go down to Cottonwood Coulee to practise whenever they wish.

MHASR says COVID specific protocols will be sent out to participants once registered, and anyone with questions regarding golf before registering on their website can email program co-ordinator Tara Chisholm at tara@parasportsab.com.

MHASR is also rolling out its adaptive cycling group intended for teens and adults, starting June 15. Interested cyclists can bring their own bike or use one of MHASR’s. The cost of the group, which runs June 15 to Aug. 10, is $50 with a personal bike or $80 to use an MHASR bike. The fee also includes an Alberta Bicycle Association membership.

The cycling group is divided into two; a leisure ride section from 6-7 p.m. around the Kin Coulee band shelter, and the Trail Ride Group from 7:15-8:15 p.m. Cyclists in the trail group will take on some of the paved trails which start from Kin Coulee, but won’t be adventuring any of the “massive hills” the Coulee has to offer.

Like the golf program, registration is available at http://www.parasportsab.com and any questions can be directed to tara@parasportsab.com.
