A man who was arrested after missing his preliminary hearing last week into sex assault charges will have a new lawyer.

Cory James Dominaux, 37, was one of four men charged in the spring of 2021 with offering teenage girls under 16 money, drugs or alcohol in exchange for sex.

In Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Thursday, his attorney Brad Kraus told the court that there had been a break-down of the relationship with his client.

He asked to be removed as counsel in the matter, and said defence attorney Scott Hadford is taking over the case.

Special Crown prosecutor Tara Hayes had no objection to the request, but requested the Brooks man be required to appear at his next court date on June 2.

He faces two counts of obtaining sexual services from a person under 18, two counts of sexual assault on a person under 16, along with related charges of sexual contact and luring a minor.

Another man charged in the case, Simarjeet Singh Bathal, 26, was set to go to trial separately on 11 sex-related charges in mid-June.

That trial, however, will be rescheduled, court heard this week, as new lawyer Yoav Niv of Calgary was recently retained and requested more time to prepare.
