MHC Brooks Campus to get $324K for Health Care Aid program

The Health Care Aid program offered at Medicine Hat College’s Brooks Campus will be receiving $324,000 in additional funding over the next three years, Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides announced Tuesday.

The funding will create an additional 30 seats for Brooks campus students.

College officials expressed gratitude for the investment, which they believe will benefit, not only students, but the region.

“There’s a strong demand for health care in our region,” Sandy Henderson, dean of student services and registrar, told the News. “There’s lots of opportunities for students to get the training, then access employment.”

Medicine Hat College’s Health Care Aid program is an eight-month program, offered at both the Medicine Hat and Brooks campuses. Students in the program learn skills necessary for frontline care careers through in-class training and a practicum.

“(The program) helps people gain access to health-care careers and (gives) people certification to work in a variety of health-care settings,” Henderson said.
