Carbon black maker, Cancarb, is on schedule to resume full production at its Medicine Hat facility in mid-May, following a six-week shutdown and intermittent production that started April 1.

The firm stated the work is part of routine seven-year maintenance plan, which required a complete shutdown of production for about 12 days earlier this month.

Since then partial production has resumed, as has production of power from the facilities waste-heat-to-power generator, which supplies the City of Medicine Hat system under contract.

Company also stated that since the original contract was signed in 2000, the generator has supplied 3.5 million megawatt hours of the power to the local system.

Wind financing

Potentia Renewables has secured US$600 million from German infrastructure bank KFW to complete five wind farms in Alberta, including a complex of three near Jenner.

Potentia was one of several companies to win long-term supply contracts from the Alberta Electric System Operator in 2018 for its Jenner and Stirling Wind proposals.

Jenner, know a three-phase proposal known as Jenner 1, 2, 3, would comprise 55 turbines directly northeast of CFB Suffield. The financing also relates to Potentia’s Wheatland Wind proposal, near Drumheller.

Potentia also announced this week in a joint statement with SaskPower that the 50-tower, 200-megawatt Golden South Wind energy facility near Assiniboia, Sask. is now in operation. It has a 25-year supply contract with the Crown power provider in the province. SaskPower separately announce it will soon seek bids from companies to supply 100-megawatts of solar generating capacity in the Estevan area.
