The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is offering Hatters a chance to bee-come friends with southeast Alberta’s pollinator populations through the assembly and installation of garden bumblebee boxes.

Bumblebee boxes provide pollinators safe spaces in which they can build their hives and operate from throughout the warm weather months.

Hatters are invited to build their own bumblebee box Saturday at the Police Point Park Nature Centre. Each box-building session is one-hour in length, with sessions beginning at 9:30 a.m. Registration is required. A charge of $15 per box will be applied.

Hatters also have the chance to take part in the Citizen Science Bumblebee Monitoring Program, which is offered through Alberta Native Bee Council. Program participants will set up a bumblebee box on their property, check it in mid-July and again in September, then report their findings.

For more information, or to register, call the Nature Centre at 403-529-6225.
