kking@medicinehatnews.com Medicine Hat’s next generation is invited to meet with representatives from community organizations Saturday at the Gas City Kiwanis Centre Society’s Spring Youth Fair. “The idea is that we would like to open up the Kiwanis Centre and give the young people in the community the opportunity to come out and learn a little bit more about groups and activities operating in our community and hopefully encourage them to become volunteers,” Ron Pennington, with the Kiwanis Centre Society’s executive committee, told the News. “We’re just trying to do our part to (allow) young people to learn the joys of volunteering and giving back because that’s an act you’ll carry with you the rest of your life.” Beyond the Kiwanis Centre Society, 15 local organizations will be present at the fair, including the Medicine Hat Chess Society, Royal Purple, Medicine Hat Fish and Game Society, Sprouts Yoga, Praxis Science Outreach, Community Foundation of Southeast Alberta, Be Youth, Cypress Highland Dancers, Safety City, Medicine Hat Boxing Club, the Root Cellar, Big Brothers Big Sisters, 4H and the City of Medicine Hat. The event is geared towards youth ages 10-18. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kiwanis Centre. Food and snacks will be available, as well as door prizes. 7
