Sun City Dental has stepped up with a $75,000 donation to the YMCA of Medicine Hat for renovations in the Downtown YMCA’s Men’s Health Plus Club change room.

The donation will allow for improvements including new hot tub mechanical, plumbing and electrical upgrades, new flooring, updated fixtures and countertops, according to a YMCA media release.

“It’s important to us to invest in men’s wellness,” Sun City Dental owner Chris Baba says in the release. “The last two years have highlighted the struggles in our community related to men’s mental health. The YMCA’s Men’s Health Plus Club is a safe and welcoming place where men can find a sense of belonging, feel connected to community, and improve their overall wellness. We are proud to contribute to men’s wellness in our community through this investment at the YMCA.”

In 2021, the YMCA of Medicine Hat launched a $3-million capital campaign, which was championed by Sun City Dental, reads the release.

“We are incredibly grateful for the community’s response to this capital campaign. Sun City Dental’s champion sponsorship has led to additional sponsorships from the community, and we hope to see this trend continue,” says CEO Sharon Hayward. “The YMCA of Medicine Hat has been here for 60 years, and we intend to be here for another 60, thanks to the support of our community.”

Other contributors to the campaign include the Miller family – sponsoring the YMCA Aquatics Centre – and the estate of Alex McDougald, an accessibility sponsor to install a wheelchair elevator and an inclusive bathroom.
