More that a half-million dollars in downtown building incentives were allotted in two days last week, according to officials with Invest Medicine Hat which administers the Waterfront District “vibrancy” and “housing” grants.

The vibrancy grant refunds up to half eligible costs up to $50,000 to business owners whose improvements contribute to the city centre.

The housing portion pays parts of costs of projects that add residential units between Maple Avenue and Third Avenue SE, the Medicine Hat Arena lands and from the South Saskatchewan River to Fifth Street (downtown) and Balmoral Street (near N. Railway Street).

That grant provides between a maximum of $15,000 to $20,000 per address, depending on zoning.

They were opened for applications on April 1.
