The RCMP has laid charges after they say an ATM was blown up in Oyen.

Mounties in Hanna announced Thursday they had arrested three men at a local hotel and discovered three stolen vehicles, $130,000 in cash and break-in tools, including an “improvised explosive device.”

Police believe that is connected to a break-in at the TD Bank cash machine location in Oyen on March 24, where an explosion was used to gain access to the cash.

The RCMP’s Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit began investigating a string of ATM thefts on March 1, the release stated.

Vehicles recovered included Dodge Ram stolen in Fort Macleod, a Dodge Durango and a Dodge Ram truck, both taken from Rosetown, Sask.

Pictures of seized evidence show a portable cutting torch and a large, hand-held circular metal saw.

Charged are Kevin Sider, 42, of Leduc, Robert Foster, 41, of Big Valley, Alta., and Leslie Asachuk, 34, of Mirror, Alta., each are charged with breaking and entering a business, mischief, setting off an explosive device, money laundering, possessing stolen property over $5,000 and possessing break-in tools.

Each is remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Drumheller Provincial court at various dates this month.
