https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews A federal Conservative leadership candidate from Saskatchewan will be in Medicine Hat tonight to rally support. Joseph Bourgault operates a farm implement manufacturing firm in St. Brieux, Sask, near Saskatoon, and is seeking to lead the national party on a platform decrying pandemic restrictions, carbon pricing and “globalism,” which he says is a threat to Canadian sovereignty. His platform claims pandemic health measures and vaccination requirements are politically motivated rather than medically sound. “As a government, we will represent and protect our citizens from agendas that do not benefit our citizens,” it reads in part. “We do not support the World Economic Forum’s Great Reset agenda.” Bourgault will host a no-charge event for party members and others interested in politics at the Medicine Hat Lodge on Monday, March 28 beginning at 6 p.m. A similar event is scheduled the next day at the Signature Sandman Hotel in Lethbridge. Bourgault is one of two candidates in the party’s federal leadership contest to book time in southeast Alberta. Pierre Poilievre will be in Medicine Hat on April 11 for an event hosted by the Riding’s CPC Constituency Association. The Alberta-raised Ottawa-area MP was the first to declare his candidacy to replace former leader Erin O’Toole. Also in the race are former Quebec premier Jean Charest, former Ontario Tory leader Patrick Brown and former leadership candidate and current MP Leslyn Lewis. Candidates have until April 29 to register campaigns and pay deposits. Memberships must be valid prior to June 3 in order to vote on ballots mailed this summer ahead of the Sept. 10 party election.
